Who We Are
Our Church
First Baptist Church of Norwalk (FBCN) was established under the name Calvary Baptist Church in 1946. Since then it has ebbed and flowed with time, but has been committed to preaching the Gospel, which is the Bible in its fullness, to the local community and around the World.
Biblical Preaching
Every week the message is an exposition of the meaning of a given portion of a book from the Bible. Over the course of many weeks, every single word of the book is read, explained, and applied through engaging, thoughtful, theological, and relevant preaching.
Biblical Membership
Becoming a member of FBCN takes some effort. Any Baptized Christian can commit to becoming a member by:
- Filling out an application
- Taking the 4 Membership classes
- Being interviewed by a pastor
Being a member means
- Having a vote at member meetings to help direct church business
- The potential ability to serve as a teacher, elder, deacon, or usher.
- Being under the care of the church for spiritual and physical needs
Discipleship
Each member of the church can count on mentoring, counseling, and guidance in matters of conscience, work, family and spirituality.
Fellowship
FBCN seeks to cultivate a culture of friendship and brotherhood. Meals together, game nights, and other activities provide opportunities for meaningful and healthy relationships.
Evangelism
In accordance with Matthew 28:18-20, FBCN is dedicated to communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our neighbors, family and friends.
What We Believe
Baptist Faith and Message 2000
Confessions
While FBCN is a Southern Baptist Church whose sole binding statement of beliefs is the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, we are deeply indebted to the Historic Confessions below and hold them in high esteem as faithful articulations of the many doctrinal distinctives we affirm.
- 1689 Second London Baptist Confession
- Apostles’ Creed
- Nicene Creed
- Chalcedonian Creed
We also recommend this helpful catechism to teach each other, strengthen our faith, and provide short memorable answers to a variety of doctrinal questions:
- Truth and Grace Memory Books

Bio
Miguel was born to faithful churchgoing parents from El Salvador in sunny Southern
California. He grew up enjoying the hectic, sometimes dangerous, rush of city life in the
Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. No wonder he decided early on to make cartoons and
comics for a living. But it was not meant to be. Though graduating from Cal State Long Beach
with a Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, and briefly working as an artist, it wasn’t long before
God’s providence would move him in the direction of full time ministry. He soon earned a Master
of Divinity degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (AKA Gateway) and then a
Doctorate of Ministry from The Master’s Seminary. Miguel has been a pastor since 2011, is
blessed to be married to his wife Sarah since 2008, and together, raising their two kids.
